Stay at Home Mom?

I love my normal schedule!  It works for me and my family and tomorrow at 3:45am I'll be back to it.

Even though I had 8 weeks of being home after Charlotte was born it was different cause Tyrone was still on his normal schedule.  But for the last 3 days it's been so different.  Tyrone has left the house at 8am and not come home til 5pm and I haven't gone to work but stayed home with the kiddos.

This experiment has made me so thankful for my 'normal.'  I love my kids but Tyrone is better at morning routine and I love coming home from work to find breakfast on the table and two happy kids greeting me.

Tuesday

The day started off kinda rocky.  Charlotte didn't sleep in and Samuel woke up crying.  Once everyone was happy again it was time for breakfast.  Breakfast went okay and I started making scones.  I set up two playdates to keep me busy for the day.  Half way thru the scones Samuel says, "I gotta poop."

I drop everything and we head to the bathroom.  While I'm waiting for Samuel, I wash my face and get dressed.  15 minutes later, still no poop and Samuel says he's all done.  At this point Charlotte decides she's hungry, NOW!  So I start feeding her and then Samuel says, "I gotta poop."  His timing isn't the greatest as he had already pooped in his diaper.

After this comedy, I finally put the scones in the oven.  Just in time too, my first playdate was at the door.

After two very fun playdates and some cupboard cleaning in between it was almost 5pm and Tyrone would be home soon.

Wednesday

Wednesday was great, we all slept in 'til 10am!  That made our morning fun and relaxing.

My mom likes to take Samuel to the library on Wednesdays.  Samuel asked if Charlotte could come too, so I got ready and headed out with Grandma.

Samuel showed me all around the library, we played puzzles, doll house, legos, and I found some potty training books.  Grandma decided we should walk to the Children's Museum, however Charlotte and I ended up driving.

At the Children's Museum, Samuel showed Grandma the trains, plane, firetruck and ferry boat.  Samuel had a blast and Charlotte slept attached to mommy.  After the Museum we all headed home and ate snacks.  Tyrone was home soon after that.

Thursday

I usually look forward to Thursdays because I get the car.  Sadly, this was not the case today.  Grandma to the rescue.  We hurried through breakfast so Charlotte and I could go to MOPS, while Grandma and Samuel went back to the museum.

MOPS was great and Samuel had fun at the museum, too much fun.  Samuel spent the afternoon being cranky and practicing the word NO.  Charlotte took a nap and was basically a perfect baby.

Samuel is currently watching Curious George, and Charlotte is watching me write this blog.  We are counting down the minutes until daddy gets home.

Tomorrow

Friday we will be back to our normal, which works great for us.

I'll get up at 345am, feed Charlotte and then head to work.  My family will sleep until 9am and have breakfast waiting for me when I walk in the door at 930am.  Charlotte will eat again and then I get a nap while Tyrone plays with the kids.  Since it's Friday, Tyrone will stay home but on days he works he heads out after my nap, about 2pm.  Charlotte sleeps at 2pm and Samuel and I play.  Once Charlotte gets up, both kids watch me make dinner and we eat together.  After dinner we play some more and get ready for bed.  Tyrone come homes between 8 and 9pm and does bedtime routine.

I love our normal!

PS Today is the 1st anniversary of my blog!

The Quest Continues

Today I finally had the right ingredients and enough energy to make Macaroni and Cheese.  After my last my post I started looking for a recipe like my grandmother's.  I knew the basic ingredients she used:  milk, cheese, noodles, and an egg.  So I passed over any recipe that didn't use an egg. After finding quite a few I settled on The Pioneer Women Cooks recipe.   Macaroni and Cheese I followed the recipe exactly and it looked like my grandmas... I even used the same baking dish.  However, it did not taste like Grandma's.  I had baked it for 20 minutes and it just wasn't right so back in the oven it went for another 20.  This time it was more crunchy but still not perfect.  It was too cheesy and the noodles near the edges weren't crunchy and brown.  The egg did blend well but next time I'll use way less cheese.  I know my grandma used Tillamook, which is the best cheese ever, so that wasn't the problem. So now the hunt begins...

Velveeta

I made macaroni and cheese for dinner, again.  This time I took my Aunt's advice and tried Velveeta. Did anyone else eat this as a child?  I have lots of childhood memories around Velveeta.  That is until my mom decided that any cheese that didn't need to be refrigerated was probably really unhealthy.  Up until then it was used in grilled cheese and macaroni and cheese.  Mom let us keep the cool cardboard boxes it came in.  There were used for storing small stuff and other craft project. Tonight I tried the easy recipe on the Velveeta box.  Once I opened up the cheese I thought what am I doing this can't be healthy. It's cheese Product! Once the noodles were cooked and rinsed I added the "cheese."  It did melt quite nicely and didn't have any grease floating at the top.  However, it also didn't have any flavor.  I added more pepper but it still wasn't right. Did I mention it looked like glue? So I put half in the oven to...

Snow Day?

Everyone is talking about snow.  When will it start?  How much will we get?  When will it melt?  Is it spring yet? As I write this it isn't snowing yet, but there are remains of Saturday's snow on the lawn across the street from my treehouse.  The roofs are also partially covered.  I keep hearing that we are getting 3 inches starting at 4pm and ending sometime tomorrow.  All this snow talk has made me remember some of my favorite snow days. January 1985 I'm five years old and I have a new baby sister.  There is lots of snow on our street and in our yard.  Our old house had this amazing yard, it was huge.  There was a greenhouse, large garden, fruit trees, volleyball/badminton court, sandbox, and a huge deck. I remember going out side with my dad and his old sled, the real kind with runners.  He would make the runners slippery by rubbing them with a candle.  We would walk up the little hill by our house and sled down. ...
