mmmm...Pie

This post was more fitting yesterday, 3.14, but my kids and schedule didn't allow the time. I love pie! This love was introduced early by my Grandpa B.  He also loved to bake and create his own recipes.  He made bread, pie, ice cream (not really baking but very yummy), cookies, and cake.  My mom loved her dad's bread so much he taught my dad how to make it.  My dad has been baking bread every since. One of my Grandpa's specialties was Blueberry pie with a whole wheat crust.  He would pick the blueberries from his own trees and make the crust with fresh ground whole wheat.  It was delicious. He also introduced another idea, Pie for breakfast.  He would sometimes have friends over for breakfast and serve pie. Sadly, we haven't been able to find his whole wheat crust recipe. 3.14 day Since yesterday was 'pi day' there were a lot of posts about Pie.  I started craving pie and thinking of my Grandpa's blueberry pie and suddenly ...

Productive Saturday

I love Saturdays!  Even though I start the day by getting up at 3am and heading off to work. Today's Productivity! Work:  I organized the back room shelfs and made room for all the stuff coming on Wednesday.  I also helped serve customers with my awesome coworkers. Home:  Got home and took a 3 hour nap.  Woke up and started my day all over again. Craft Projects:  Samuel loves to color, paint, glue, or anything else artsy.  So I got out the green construction paper, green paint, scissors, glue, green markers, and pulled up some cute projects in Pinterest. We started by cutting out clover leaves and gluing them on paper.  Samuel hung his finished project on his bedroom door.  Moved on to trying to make our own window clings out of glue and food coloring.  We'll have to attempt that one again as ours still isn't dry and it ran.  By tomorrow it should be a nice green blog window cling. Then it was time to paint. ...

Proposal Day

Six years ago today, Tyrone proposed.  This is the post from last year and it includes a picture of the ring. Five years ago today, Tyrone proposed. Wow has it really been 5 years?  Some days it feels like yesterday. It was a day much like today, rainy and overcast.  We always had a special date on the 6th of each month since that is the date of our 1st date.  So Tyrone picked me up and we headed off to Edmonds.  I knew we were doing something fun as I had to pack a lunch.  Tyrone had thought about taking the ferry but it was so gray there was nothing to see, so we had a picnic at the beach. We had walked down quite a ways and sat down on some logs and enjoyed our lunch.  We are sitting there looking at the water and just talking.  After we packed up our lunch, Tyrone says he has something to tell me.  On the drive down I had a brief thought that maybe this was the day, the day he would propose.  All of a sudden I'm sure of it w...

Getting creative in the Kitchen

I think I might be getting the hang of this mom of two thing.  Today went pretty well. I got a nap, a workout and a shower.  Crazy but it happened.  I even gave Charlotte a bath too. After completing the above it was time for a Green Smoothie.  My new favorite green smoothie is Mint Chocolate Green Smoothie.  I know weird combo but so good. Mint Chocolate Green Smoothie adapted from  Chocolate Covered Kate .  My goal is to make everything on her blog. 1c Homemade Almond Milk* 1 Banana 2c Spinach 3 scoops Genisoy Chocolate Protein Powder (chocolate chips or cocoa powder work too) 1/2 tsp Peppermint Extract 8 ice cubes Blend together.  Makes 16oz and if I did my calories right it's 569 calories and very filling. How to make Almond Milk Soak 1c almonds overnight, rinse well. Add 4 cups water and 1tsp vanilla extract Blend well then pour though a strainer a few times. For Dinner I'm making Quinoa and Ch...

Gluten Free Ravioli Update

Two weeks ago I had this crazy idea of making gf ravioli from scratch Previous Ravioli Post "So as I was checking my Pinterest and thinking about making dinner.  One click led to another and there was a recipe for GF Ravioli.  I was intrigued, anytime I find a recipe for gf dough I can knead, I want to try it.   GF Ravioli I didn't have the ingredients to make the filling so I went looking for another filling.  I found a yummy Cheese-Broccoli filling and actually had all the ingredients.  Ravioli Filling " The whole thing didn't quite go as planned but today I took the frozen ravioli out of the freezer tossed it in the oven at 375 and drizzled some butter over it.  Wow!  it was so good and would be even better if I had a white sauce or even red to enjoy it with. So in the near future I will be making the above recipes again and instead of boiling I'll be baking.

Spinach Soup

It's here my 1st orignal recipe, Spinach Soup.  I have been making lots of smoothies in my new Blendtec but I hadn't made any soup yet.  So tonight I went looking for a spinach soup recipe but as per usual I never find one that uses ingredients I have on hand.  I figured I'm a smart cookie, I can make my own, so I did. Spinach Soup 1.5 c Milk .5 c Half n Half 3 handfuls Spinach 3 string cheeses 2 cloves Garlic 4 Green Onions 1tsp Italian Seasoning 2 Tbl Grated Parmesan Cheese Dash of Salt Dash of Pepper Warm up the milk in the microwave and add to the rest of the ingredients in the blender.  Blend on Soup.  Sprinkle some Parmesan Cheese on top and Enjoy! It a little on the spicy side but my sinuses needed a kick start.

Snow Day or How I survived 1 day of cabin fever

Today I woke up to more snow but it was okay 'cause I got to sleep in until 9am! Our snow adventure started last Friday at midnight.  We were at the cabin with some friends, when the flurries started falling. We woke up to a winter wonderland of about 6-8 inches.  No cabin fever that day as we headed in to town.  Samuel and I got haircuts and we all went to Graham's for some groceries.  Sunday we woke up to even more snow but still headed home Sunday afternoon. Monday I headed off to work and watched it snow some more.  Tuesday and Wednesday same story.  So today was my first day of cabin fever. The day started with me screaming and waking up Tyrone and Charlotte.  I had rolled over to find Samuel standing in our room just staring at us.  If you have a toddler you've probably experienced this before.  Now normally Samuel walks in our room and says, "Mommy, You awake?"  I tend to answer "almost." After thi...
