Today, Tyrone was the guest speaker at our church. He usually speaks a couple times a year, sometimes at our church, sometimes at other churches.
This morning was the 2nd time Samuel has heard him speak. Samuel did really well, he listened to daddy and sat quietly in my lap, for the most part. A couple times he'd stop playing with Grandma's bracelets and point and say 'Daddy.' He also said 'yellow' quite a few times. Yellow is the one color Samuel knows, so when he sees it he let's us know. Samuel got a cute John Deere soft book for Christmas from his Great-Great Aunt Alice. It is a counting book that is green with a yellow border. So every page it was 'yellow, yellow, yellow.'
Most Sundays, Samuel is audible enough to be picked up by the Pastors mike, which means Samuel can be heard on the podcast of the sermon. I imagine that if you listen today's, you'll hear lots of yellow and daddy since we were sitting in the front row, incase we needed to make a quick escape.
The first time Samuel was aware that daddy was speaking was last Wednesday. Tyrone spoke to a Christian School's chapel for Martin Luther King, Jr Day. We sat in the back of a large auditorium full of 3rd and 4th graders. Samuel made it about 5 minutes before he started yelling 'DADDY' over and over again. So we went out to the foyer and ran around and tried again, same thing 'DADDY' at the top of his lungs. I didn't get to hear Tyrone talk about MLK Jr, however Samuel did run off a lot of energy running back in forth in the foyer.
I love to hear Tyrone speak. The first time I heard him was before we were dating. He was speaking at his College/Career group at his church and invited me to hear him. Tyrone and I worked at Starbucks together and he had a crush on me since the first day we met. I kinda liked him too, so I went and was very impressed. I don't remember what he talked about but he did a good job.
The next time I got to hear Tyrone preach was at a junior high camp while we were dating. We'd been dating about a month and it was our first road trip. The camp was called Pleasant Valley and was about a 3 hour drive. Driving with someone can be eye opening too: You learn how they drive, how they like to follow directions or not, and what road trip food is there favorite. I was even more impressed the second time he spoke and those junior highers listened to him too.
So if you want to hear Tyrone's sermon from this morning or just want to see if you can hear Samuel say 'Daddy' or 'Yellow' here is the link http://southeverett.org/2011/01/ Tyrone's is the first one listed.

I finally listened to this. What a great sermon! I laughed and I learned a lot. Plus I did hear Samo talking about his dad and the color yellow!
