mmmm...Pie

This post was more fitting yesterday, 3.14, but my kids and schedule didn't allow the time. I love pie! This love was introduced early by my Grandpa B.  He also loved to bake and create his own recipes.  He made bread, pie, ice cream (not really baking but very yummy), cookies, and cake.  My mom loved her dad's bread so much he taught my dad how to make it.  My dad has been baking bread every since. One of my Grandpa's specialties was Blueberry pie with a whole wheat crust.  He would pick the blueberries from his own trees and make the crust with fresh ground whole wheat.  It was delicious. He also introduced another idea, Pie for breakfast.  He would sometimes have friends over for breakfast and serve pie. Sadly, we haven't been able to find his whole wheat crust recipe. 3.14 day Since yesterday was 'pi day' there were a lot of posts about Pie.  I started craving pie and thinking of my Grandpa's blueberry pie and suddenly ...

Proposal Day

Six years ago today, Tyrone proposed.  This is the post from last year and it includes a picture of the ring. Five years ago today, Tyrone proposed. Wow has it really been 5 years?  Some days it feels like yesterday. It was a day much like today, rainy and overcast.  We always had a special date on the 6th of each month since that is the date of our 1st date.  So Tyrone picked me up and we headed off to Edmonds.  I knew we were doing something fun as I had to pack a lunch.  Tyrone had thought about taking the ferry but it was so gray there was nothing to see, so we had a picnic at the beach. We had walked down quite a ways and sat down on some logs and enjoyed our lunch.  We are sitting there looking at the water and just talking.  After we packed up our lunch, Tyrone says he has something to tell me.  On the drive down I had a brief thought that maybe this was the day, the day he would propose.  All of a sudden I'm sure of it w...

My Stories, part VIII

My Stories, Part VIII On Tuesdays I'm answering questions from  My Mom. Her Stories. Her Words. Today's Question Mom, what's your favorite memory of your mom? Your dad? Wow, the questions just keep getting harder.  I plan on making many more memories with my parents so that makes it even tougher. This is really tough, I've been sitting infront of the screen for 10 min trying to pin down one favorite memory.  I think it's really the little things that matter. My Mom The first time she held my children after they were born Making the bouquets for my wedding Helping me write numerous college papers Buying me a dog Taking me on fun trips Road tripping home from Montana, she even road the Greyhound to meet me My Dad Watching him play with my children, He is such an awesome Grandpa All the times he helped me fix my Jeep and the Concord too Taking me skiing Building me a fort in the backyard Painting his childhood swingset hot pink and ...

My Stories VII

My Stories, Part VII On Tuesdays I'm answering questions from  My Mom. Her Stories. Her Words. Today's Question Mom, who were some of your favorite relatives, and what made them special? Sometimes these questions are really hard to answer.  I can think of a bunch of relatives there were special in my life.  Each person that comes into our life makes an impact, sometimes good, sometimes bad. Grandparents I was blessed to have both sets of grandparents and one set of great-grandparents be in my life for a long time.  It was also a blessing to be the first grandchild and great-grandchild.  I was only spoiled a little bit. My G&G B, were my mom's parents and lived very close to us.  My Grandpa B, took me on lots of adventures, the park, deli, and lots of walks.  Some special things we did were make cement, ice cream and pies.  Grandpa was very handy and loved to build stuff and impro...
